Today I am going to compare two well-known snowmobile brands named Arctic Cat and Ski-doo. So let’s start the discussion.

1-History

Arctic cat:

Arctic Cat was founded in 1960 by Edgar Hetteen. At first, the name of Arctic cat industries was polar industries but later it was changed to Arctic cat.

Now this company is making many other vehicles like helicopters, mini bikes, personal watercraft, blowers, and also two-wheel drive vehicles. The Headquarters of Arctic Cat is located in Thief River Falls, Minnesota

On January 25, 2017, it was heard that Textron will acquire Arctic Cat in a 247 million dollars cash transaction.

Ski-doo:

Ski-doo was founded in 1959 in Canada by Joseph Armand Bombardier. Earlier the name of this brand was ski dog. 

The ski doo name came by accident in a brochure for bombardier products typo listed ski dog as ski doo. Bombardier likes this new name and so the name was changed permanently.

Arctic Cat:

Arctic Cat; this company is well known for its high-performance snowmobiles. You can get a new model of this company almost every year.

Arctic Cat offers different categories of snowmobiles like youth, trail and utility, mountain, and crossover. It depends on your choice of which category you want to choose. Some famous models of Arctic cats are:

  • Arctic cat panther, 1967.
  • Arctic cat ZR 580, 1994.
  • Arctic cat ZR 9000 EL Tigre.
  •  Arctic cat ZR 500, 1997.
  • Arctic cat ZR  800.
Ski-Doo:

Ski-doo; this brand is famous for its reliability. This brand also offers a new model every year. This brand also offers different types of snowmobiles. It depends upon your choice which model you choose.

Arctic Cat:

The fastest snowmobiles of this brand include:

  • Arctic Cat ZR 600, 1998; The top speed of this model is 99 mph.
  • Arctic Cat XF 1100 turbo; The top speed of this model is 118 mph.
  • Arctic Cat ZR 9000; The fastest speed of this model of Arctic cat is 120 mph.
Ski-Doo:

Some fastest snowmobiles of this brand include:

  • Ski-doo MX-Z 600; The top speed of this model is 100mph.
  • Ski-doo MX-Z REV sport 600 HO; The maximum speed of this model is 107 mph.
  • Ski-doo MX-Z X 850 E-TEC; This model can reach a top speed of 128 mph.

So if you want to choose a fast snowmobile then absolutely ski doo gives you a quick response. Because Arctic cats can’t defeat ski doo in speed.

4-Prices

Arctic Cat:

In 2018, Arctic cat snowmobiles are included in Luxatic’s list of snowmobiles. The starting price of Arctic cat snowmobiles at that time was about $17,199.

Now there is not a huge increase in the price of Arctic cat snowmobiles. It still starts from $17,000.

Ski-Doo:

Most of the ski-doo models are around $15,000.

If you want a budget-friendly snowmobile then ski doo can give you a quick response. But it can’t give you huge savings.

5-Mileage

Most people do not consider mileage as an important consideration while buying a snowmobile. However, some want to know how long a snowmobile can go if you are miles and miles away from the nearest gas station and your snowmobile is going to run out of fuel. Then how much it can go?

Both ski doo and Arctic Cat are not famous for better mileage. Ski doo can cover maximum mileage of 5000 to 20,000 miles and Arctic Cat can also cover 5000 to 20,000 miles. 

6-Engine

Arctic cat:

All the Arctic Cat snowmobiles produced after 2018 are equipped with a CTEC-28000 series engine with 794 CCS of displacement. This engine is two-stroke and a liquid cooling process is used to cool this engine.

The CTEC-2 is ignited via digitally-driven 3D CDI using electronic ignition lubrication.

AW-shaped reed for better airflow is also present.

 Furthermore, to maintain lubrication a sealed center gear is present. And to start your snowmobile like your dream an automatic decompression is present. If you are going to choose this model then you can also maintain fuel pressure.

Ski-doo:

Ski doo’s Rotax engine is present in all the snowmobiles of ski doo. Rotax engines with two-stroke include:

  • Rotax 600R E-TEC.
  • Rotax E-TEC 
  • Rotax 800R E-TEC.
  • Rotax 600 H.O. E-TEC.

Rotax 600R E-TEC can give you 125 HP while Rotax 600 H.O E-TEC has a maximum displacement of 600 CCS.

The four-stroke engine includes:

  • Rotax 600 Ace.
  • Rotax 900 Ace.
  • Rotax 1200 4-Tec.
  • Rotax 900 Ace turbo.

The starting HP of Rotax 900 Ace Turbo is 150 and Rotax 1200 4-TEC engine can go up to 160 HP.

7-Suspensions

Arctic Cat:

Most of the Arctic cat snowmobiles are equipped with ARS 2 suspensions. ARS stands for Arctic race suspensions.

But this brand also uses double wishbone suspensions.

Ski-Doo:

Most of the ski-doo models include rMotion X and RAS X, the former of which is rear suspension and the latter of which is front. This suspension system is called “game-changing”.

8-Warranty

Arctic cat:

Arctic Cat gives you a limited warranty; its warranty is only applicable when the engine is not damaged by a user. For factory-sealed sales, the warranty exists between 90 and 180 days.

Ski-doo:

Ski-doo offers B.E.S.T extended service through which you can choose a coverage duration of 12, 24, or 36 months after the expiration of your manufacturer’s limited warranty.

You can also transfer the warranty to another owner in case you sell your snowmobile and you do not have to pay any additional charges for it.

Final thoughts:

So it depends upon your choice to choose a snowmobile because both are well-known and reliable snowmobile brands. If you want to know about my choice I would buy a ski doo but Arctic Cat is also not bad.
